If you happen to have banner advertising, you'll maximise revenues. We in turn attract more visitors, because we can offer better and deeper content.

But this is just an example and the possibilities are restricted only by imagination.
The web has become a field of intense competition for recognition and, of course, advertising budgets. Unless you can provide a substantial amount of traffic, you hardly survive.
